Margin Exhibition, Open Studio Toronto
This exhibition came from a number of summers spent at Toronto Island, Artscape Gibraltar Point Lodge situated on the shores of Lake Ontario. The rapid changes of weather reflected in the skies and water are explored in this series of mokuhanga prints. In this series I perfected various "bokashi" or blends of adjacent colours, and experimented with carving in particular "itabokashi" to achieve soft gradations of clouds.
Capturing the colours of the light created by the time of day or overcast conditions was also of interest. Mokuhanga lends itself to these challenges with the nuances of colour that can be achieved. (written and copyright by EF 2026).
